Cancer Advocate Coin

Honoring Breast Cancer Advocates

Each year, Cancer Care honors an advocate for breast cancer patients across north Mississippi and northwest Alabama. The award is given in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Special recognition

Because of these innovative figures, the lives of many are enriched. The Breast Cancer Advocate Award winner receives a Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin approved by the U.S. Mint.

The coin features two women. The older woman has her hands on her chest and a relieved expression on her face. The younger woman, with a scarf on her head, holds one hand over her chest and the other raised in a fist as if she is ready to fight. The reverse side depicts a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly in flight, a symbol of hope.

The Breast Cancer Advocate Award was the vision of the late Dr. Charles Montgomery, who served as a hematologist-oncologist in Tupelo from 1979 until his death in 2023.
