Our Cancer Care team offers holistic support for patients, connecting them with resources across North Mississippi Health Services and beyond.

Cancer Care Resources & Support
The Cancer Care team wraps support around patients and families. Our team includes social workers and registered dietitians. We offer support groups, wellness programs and survivor events.
Cancer Patient Guide
Our goal is to help you through this process with the information you need to understand your personal plan of care. The Cancer Care Patient Guide contains resources and information regarding common cancer treatments, procedures and symptom management. A hard copy of the patient guide can be requested from your care team.
Throughout their cancer journey, our social workers help patients who need assistance with transportation, financial burdens, emotional issues or other problems related to cancer treatment.

Wigs and head coverings
Cancer Care food pantries
Referrals to local resources
Counseling
Cancer Care Fund
Overseen by the Health Care Foundation of North Mississippi, this fund assists patients in need and their families with the support they need to continue treatment. Assistance can include pain and anti-nausea medications, nutritional supplements, transportation and other necessities. See your oncology social worker for more information.
Cancer and cancer treatments may impact the way food tastes and smells. They can affect appetite and the way the body absorbs nutrients. Our registered dietitians help to support weight maintenance, address weight loss and ease nutrition-related side effects caused by cancer treatment. They can offer assistance with:
Nutritional supplements
Side effect discomforts related to food
Nutrition deficits and weight loss
Recipes to increase calorie and protein intake when needed
Tube feeding introduction for PEG tubes including administration options
Personalized regimen for PEG tube nutrition
From the day you are diagnosed with cancer, you are considered survivors. NMMC Cancer Care offers opportunities for patients and their families to build their capacity for the life-long cancer survivorship journey. Your oncology social worker can provide additional information.
Cancer Journey Support Group meets monthly in Tupelo.
Cancer Journey Support Group meets quarterly in Starkville.
Cancer Online Patient Education library is available at Cancer Care locations.
Cancer Wellness Program
Available at NMMC Wellness Centers in Baldwyn, Iuka, Pontotoc, Tupelo and West Point, the Cancer Wellness Program is available for people receiving treatment for all types and stages of cancer. The program is personalized with specifically prescribed exercise and includes education and support to guide the cancer survivor through recovery. For more information, call (662) 377-4141.

Camp Bluebird
Camp Bluebird offers a day of entertainment and fellowship for adult cancer survivors, including those newly diagnosed, in treatment or in remission. The annual camp is held at Tombigbee State Park near Plantersville without cost to survivors.
