Manage Your Health

Health care providers recommend certain annual screenings based on age, gender or other risk factors. Learn which screenings you may need and schedule an appointment today.

Blood Pressure

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a major contributing risk factor for heart failure, myocardial infarction (heart attack), stroke and chronic kidney disease.

All adults age 18 or older should have a blood pressure screening.

Diabetes

You should be screened for diabetes if:

  • You are age 40-70 and overweight or obese
  • You have a family history of diabetes
  • You are a woman with a history of gestational diabetes

Screening for abnormal blood glucose includes:

  • Eye exam
  • Foot exam
  • A1c/Blood sugar test

Cancer Screenings

Breast Cancer

  • All women age 25 and older should have a formal risk assessment for breast cancer.
  • Women with an average risk of breast cancer should start annual screening mammograms at age 40.
  • Women with a higher-than-average risk of breast cancer should start annual screening mammograms at an earlier age and should be offered additional imaging each year.

Lung Cancer

You should be screened for lung cancer if you meet all of the following:

  • You are age 50-80
  • You have a 20 pack-year smoking history
  • You currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years

Screening is not required once you have not smoked for 15 years or have a health problem that limits life.

Colorectal Cancer

You should be screened for colorectal cancer if:

  • You are age 50-75
  • You are younger than 50 with a family history of colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death for both men and women. An estimated 10.5% of new colorectal cancer cases occur in persons younger than 50 years. If you are experiencing changes in bowel habits, blood in your stool, abdominal pain or other symptoms, contact your primary care provider.

Prostate Cancer

Adult males age 55-69 should be screened for prostate cancer.
