Respiratory and Pulmonary Care
Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory therapists help assess and treat chronic lung problems, including asthma, emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as more acute problems caused by heart attack, stroke, trauma or complications from birth. Respiratory therapists assist with airway management, mechanical ventilation, blood acid/base balance and critical care medicine.
North Mississippi Medical Center's Respiratory Therapy department has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) under a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals. About 700 hospitals or approximately 15 percent of hospitals in the United States have applied for and received this award.
