Blood & Platelet Donation at NMHS
There is a constant need for life-saving blood and platelet donation. NMHS partners with Vitalant to host blood drives.
Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services) is looking for individuals interested in donating blood or platelets.
Through their apheresis program, people donate platelets to help save the lives of people with cancer. Platelets are the portion of blood that helps control bleeding. Platelet transfusions are vital to successful chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. Unlike whole blood, platelets have a shelf life of only five days and must be constantly replaced, so there is a constant need for donors for this special blood product.
NMMC-Tupelo Volunteer Services sponsors a blood drive every four months, and our community hospitals sponsor blood drives routinely as well. For dates of upcoming blood drives, call (662) 377-3131.
