Need an evaluation by a sleep medicine physician?

Investigating Your Sleep Issue
The Sleep Disorders Centers in Tupelo, Amory, Eupora, Iuka and West Point are equipped with the latest diagnostic tools and staffed by highly trained technologists and physicians.
As part of the evaluation of your sleep disorder, your physician may order an overnight sleep study, also called polysomnogram, at one of our Sleep Disorder Centers. The sleep study is performed throughout the night in a comfortable private room, complete with sophisticated equipment to monitor sleep patterns, breathing, heart activity and body movements. Your technologist will monitor your sleep study from the control room which is equipped with computer-based digital study acquisition stations. Your room will have:
Wi-Fi internet access
Remote control TV
Individual temperature control
Ceiling fan
CPAP devices if needed on a bedside table
Technologist call system in the headboard
Please bring the things you need to be comfortable during your overnight sleep study. One person is allowed to stay with you if approved prior to the study. Patients under the age of 18 are required to have someone stay with them.
Medications you need before bedtime, through the night and in the morning
Sleepwear, toiletries, special pillow and any other needed items.
Diabetes testing supplies and/or breathing treatment supplies if required
Your CPAP mask if you are already receiving CPAP therapy
Any sleep medications your physician or nurse practitioner has prescribed for your study
Eat supper before you come.
Refrain from using oil, cream or lotion on hair, face, arms or legs
Remove any hairpieces that may restrict access to the scalp
Avoid caffeine after 9 a.m. the day of your study.
Avoid napping the day of your study.
If you are being evaluated for sleep apnea, you may want to pick a durable medical equipment (DME) provider. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea and prescribed CPAP/BiPAP therapy, you will need a DME provider to receive your equipment. These local companies are included on our preferred list based on the excellent care they provide to their patients, but you may choose any DME provider. Please select a DME provider prior to your sleep study so your prescription can be sent without delay.

What Happens Next for Sleep Apnea?
Once a diagnosis is made, our physicians will recommend specific treatment options for your sleep disorder. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, you will be prescribed CPAP therapy.
After a diagnostic study (first study) for sleep apnea:
- If you have chosen a durable medical equipment (DME) provider, your prescription will be sent to that company within 1 business day of your study. Do not go directly to the company for service; they will not have the proper information they need to help you at that time.
- In most cases, after a diagnosis of sleep apnea, you will be scheduled for a return sleep study – CPAP Titration. The reason for this study is to determine the pressure you need on your machine and confirm you have the best mask. This study is not to see how well you are doing on your machine since the first study; you may return and not have your CPAP equipment just yet.
After a CPAP Titration study (second study) for sleep apnea:
- If you have chosen a DME provider, we will send your prescription to that company within 1 business day of your study. We cannot send the prescription until the doctor interprets the study. Do not go directly to the company for service; they will not have the proper information they need to help you at that time.
- Your sleep physician’s office will contact you to schedule a 30-day follow up appointment once you have completed your sleep study. During this visit, your provider will check your compliance with the prescribed treatment and address any issues or concerns you may have.
