Revealing Bone Strength

A bone density test (DEXA) uses X-rays to determine the strength of bones. It is the most accurate method available for the diagnosis of osteoporosis.

Bone density tests measure the calcium and other minerals in your bones. It can help predict if you are at risk for fractures. Testing is generally recommended for:

  • Adults with a medical condition or medication history associated with bone loss

  • Women over age 65 regardless of additional risk factors

  • Young post-menopausal women with at least one risk factor for osteoporosis

  • Post-menopausal women with a fracture
