Revealing Bone Strength
A bone density test (DEXA) uses X-rays to determine the strength of bones. It is the most accurate method available for the diagnosis of osteoporosis.
Bone density tests measure the calcium and other minerals in your bones. It can help predict if you are at risk for fractures. Testing is generally recommended for:
Adults with a medical condition or medication history associated with bone loss
Women over age 65 regardless of additional risk factors
Young post-menopausal women with at least one risk factor for osteoporosis
Post-menopausal women with a fracture
Women undergoing or considering treatment for osteoporosis
Bone density testing is available with a physician’s order at NMHS locations across north Mississippi and northwest Alabama including:

You will lie on a table.
The machine scans & measures bone density in the hip & spine.
The exam will take only a few minutes.
