patient receiving dry needling treatment

When Rachel Ethridge learned that dry needling could help her neck and shoulder issues, she turned to the Outpatient Rehabilitation team at North Mississippi Medical Center-Pontotoc.

“I’m a believer,” Rachel says. “After the first treatment I started to feel better, and the pain was gone within the first two weeks.” Soon, she was feeling up to road trips and daily walks.

Rachel says dry needling was not painful, as one might assume. She compares it to more like a “pin prick” but says any temporary discomfort was worth it for the excellent results she has received.

According to physical therapist Kaleb Kennedy, who is certified in dry needling, this treatment option works well for persistent pain. Dry needling is performed with a thin filament needle, which stimulates the underlying myofascial trigger points, muscle and soft tissue.

“Benefits can include pain reduction, reduced muscle tension, improved range of motion and the promotion of healing,” Kaleb says. “These benefits are significant when you’re trying to recover from an injury or simply improve your quality of life.”

Rachel couldn’t agree more. “The team is incredible,” Rachel says. “They made me feel like family, and they care about how I feel. I got answers to all my many questions throughout my treatment. Dry needling is an awesome experience, and it works!”
