Wonderful Beginnings

Besides hands-on learning opportunities, our classes give you the opportunity ask questions and share concerns with your instructor and other expectant couples so you’re better prepared.

Preparing for Birth

Preparing for Birth classes are recommended after 28 weeks of pregnancy and available in person or online. Register online or call (662) 377-4956.

Class Content:

  • General aspects of labor and delivery
  • Anatomy and physiology of labor
  • Special situations in labor and delivery/Cesarean birth
  • Obstetric analgesia and anesthesia
  • Care after delivery
  • The healthy newborn
  • Basic steps of infant CPR

Place: NMMC Women’s Hospital, Tupelo
Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Dates: Thursday nights for three weeks
Cost: $35, includes book

Breastfeeding Educational Class

Breastfeeding Educational Class is designed for women who have decided to breastfeed and those who have not decided upon an infant feeding method. Register online or call (662) 377-4956

Time: 6-9 p.m.
Dates: One Tuesday each month
Cost: $15 includes book

Labor & Delivery Overview

This 30-minute class is recommended for expectant mothers 26-32 weeks of pregnancy to gain an overview of the labor and delivery process from admission to birth of baby. This class will also briefly give insight to our Baby Friendly standards and common practices. Call (662) 377-4956 for an appointment.

  • Tour of L&D suite and Mother-Baby Unit
  • How to know when to come to the hospital
  • Information on epidurals and induction process
  • Information about skin to skin, rooming-in, and feeding choices
  • Complete pre-admission forms

Sibling Class

This free one-hour class helps prepare children ages 3-9 for the arrival of the newborn by providing them with information that is realistic and appropriate for their age – what a newborn looks like, what they are able to do and how the new big brother or sister can help care for the newborn. Grandparenting Class

This free one-hour class updates expectant grandparents on changes in birth practices and maternity and newborn care, and promotes an understanding of their children’s parenting perspective. Call (662) 377-4956 to schedule.

Basic Steps of Infant CPR

This free class teaches parents and caregivers the skills needed to perform infant CPR and manage a choking infant. The program follows the American Red Cross guidelines and is taught by licensed professionals. Please note: This class DOES NOT certify participants in CPR. Register online or call (662) 377-4956
