Care As We Age

Medical care becomes more complex as you age and encounter more medical conditions. Geriatric medicine focuses on medical issues and diseases of aging, and of old age.

Medical Care for Older Adults

A good relationship with a primary care provider is especially important as we age and can develop health issues. Your primary care provider can assist with:

  • Medication management

  • Coordinating care with specialists

  • Preventive care & screenings

  • Referrals to needed resources

Mental Health Care Tailored for Your Needs

As we age, older adults can have specific mental health needs. North Mississippi Health Services offers a number of resources to address these needs.

  • North Mississippi Medical Center Behavioral Health Center treats adults of all ages in its inpatient and outpatient programs. For older adults, the facility offers outpatient individual, marital and group counseling. Also, psychologists provide special testing to determine the causes of problematic symptoms, such as memory loss, motor skill changes and mood disturbances. After the testing, follow-up recommendations are offered to the patient and family, with the option for further collaboration and teamwork with physicians and other health care providers.
  • North Mississippi Medical Center-Pontotoc offers the Senior Outpatient Counseling Program. The program includes therapeutic groups that allow patients an opportunity to explore and identify positive coping skills to improve their emotional and mental well-being.
