Care for Liver Disorders

Physicians at the Center for Digestive Health on the North Mississippi Medical Center campus in Tupelo evaluate and treat diseases of the liver, such as:

• Cirrohsis
• Liver cancer
• Pancreatitis
• Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
• Genetic liver diseases

Normally, your liver does many things. It helps your body digest fat and break down cholesterol, gets rid of poisons like alcohol and drugs, and stores energy. It also helps your body form blood clots and scabs if you are hurt. Liver disorders, left untreated, can progress to liver failure - a life-threatening problem.

The staff has been active in clinical trials for viral hepatitis and has expertise in cholestatic liver disease. A close working relationship exists with interventional radiologists and surgeons for the care of patients with liver disorders. While a liver transplant program does not exist in Mississippi, the Center for Digestive Health's physicians have an excellent relationship with two regional transplant centers and extensive experience in the pre- and post-transplant management of these patients.
