Stronger, Healthier, Happier: Amanda's Weight Loss Journey

Summary
Down 102 pounds, Amanda Staggs of Pontotoc knows firsthand the power of perseverance and a supportive weight loss team.
In the process of losing 102 pounds, Amanda Staggs of Pontotoc found herself again.
“I had tried everything and nothing seemed to work,” Amanda says. “I was experiencing a lot of joint pain, especially in my hips, knees and ankles.”
Her blood pressure was steadily increasing, and she was constantly fatigued and short of breath with even the slightest exertion.
“My husband and I like to camp and hike,” she says. “In 2022 and 2023, we took trips to Universal Studios and to the Smoky Mountains. Halfway through the day, my knees and ankles were hurting so bad, and I just couldn't quite keep up with him. It was just so disappointing not be able to enjoy it.”

The Turning Point
By 2024, she was ready flip the script. Dr. Will Cauthen and the weight loss team at North Mississippi Health Services supported Amanda on her weight loss journey.
Her determination and commitment led to remarkable changes. Since losing weight, her joint pain has disappeared, and her blood pressure is back within the normal range.
“I’m no longer out of breath just walking across a parking lot, and I’m even sleeping better,” she says. “I am able to enjoy walking and hiking when we camp. We’re actually under the weight limit on our kayak now, so that is so exciting and a lot of fun to do.”
Amanda’s Advice
Amanda’s transformation goes beyond physical health—it has also paid big dividends on her overall well-being.
“There is a long history of diabetes and heart disease in my family, and losing weight has greatly reduced my risk of developing those issues,” she says. “I know my health is much better—and not only that, but I also feel better about myself. And when you're more confident and feel better, it’s easier to get out and enjoy doing more things.
Amanda’s story highlights the combined power of perseverance plus a supportive weight loss team.
“Do your research. Don’t be afraid to ask questions,” she urges. “Talk to others who’ve walked this road. Pray about it and schedule an appointment to see what your options are.”
