100 Pounds Lighter: Why Brooke Chose Change

Summary
Losing 100 pounds gave Brooke Parker of Red Bay, Alabama, hope, strength and confidence to be there for her special needs children in the years to come.
When Brooke Parker, a single mom from Red Bay, Alabama, began her weight loss journey in 2024, she wasn’t just thinking about herself—she was thinking about her two children, both with high-support needs autism.
“I was really worried about my health and being around for them,” Brooke shares.
A Mother’s Motivation
Brooke faced a daunting list of health challenges: high blood pressure, metabolic issues, polycystic ovary syndrome, chronic fatigue, joint pain, inflammation and pre-diabetes.
“I struggled to be present physically and mentally for my children,” she recalls. “I was constantly exhausted and in pain daily. I was at risk for many health complications that would negatively impact my ability to care for my children as they grew older.”
Brooke knew she needed to make a change, not just for herself, but for her kids. “I knew I needed to make a change to become healthy for them,” she says.
With support from Dr. Terry Pinson and the North Mississippi Health Services weight loss team, Brooke set out to do just that.

Brooke’s Transformation
Since losing 100 pounds, Brooke’s life has changed in ways she never imagined. She no longer struggles with high blood pressure or daily joint pain. The threat of diabetes is gone. Her sleep quality has dramatically improved, and she has more energy.
“I feel better physically and mentally,” Brooke says. “I can look at myself in the mirror and be proud of the woman I see!”
But the transformation runs much deeper. “Beyond the physical changes, the surgery has given me a sense of security for the future,” she says. “I used to worry about whether my health would allow me to be there for my special needs children as they get older. Losing the weight has lifted that burden and replaced it with hope, strength, and confidence that I can be present for all the moments that matter most.”
Do it for You—and Them
Taking control of your health can have a profound impact, not just for yourself but for those you love. “It’s not just about losing weight—it’s about gaining back your health, your confidence and your future,” she says. “It’s not always easy, but the results are worth it. If you’re ready to commit to the journey, it can truly change your life for the better.”
