Stubbs Retires from 40-Year NMMC Nursing Career

David Vance and Rebecca StubbsTUPELO, Mississippi--Registered nurse Rebecca Stubbs of Pre-Admission Testing recently retired after 40 years of service at North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo.

A 1976 graduate of Ripley High School, Stubbs joined NMMC in June 1983 as a registered nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. In 1987 she transferred to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, where she worked for nine years. She spent the last 27 years of her tenure in Pre-Admission Testing.

“Rebecca has been a wonderful coworker, friend and an excellent employee for the past 40 years,” says Katie Goff, charge nurse in Pre-Admission Testing, who worked alongside Stubbs for several years in SICU. “Now, after all these years at NMMC, Rebecca is retiring and finishing her work journey. It’s unique to think that we started our careers together and we’re finishing together. She will be missed very much, and we wish her much happiness in the future.”

Stubbs holds an associate degree in nursing from Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville (1979) and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Alabama (1983).

Stubbs says she enjoyed meeting people from throughout the hospital and developing lifelong friendships with her teammates. While she will miss these coworkers dearly, she says she won’t miss her two-hour daily commute from Ripley nor driving to and from work in inclement weather.

In retirement, she looks forward to spontaneous travel with friends and family, as well as babysitting her great nieces and nephew.

“I am grateful for my time at NMMC and the lifelong friendships I have made,” Stubbs says.Rebecca Stubbs Retirement Group
