NMMC Acute Rehab Honors Physicians of the Year
Acute Rehabilitation Services Team
North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo’s Acute Rehabilitation team recently honored their Physicians of the Year for 2020-2022.
Palliative care physician Dr. Lucas McElwain is the 2020 Acute Rehabilitation Physician of the Year. The Acute Rehabilitation team describes Dr. McElwain as “a physician who reaches out to therapists” and “values our opinion on the rehabilitation potential and outcomes of the patients on which he is consulted.” Although many of his patients transition to hospice care, he attempts to maximize their potential before that transition. Dr. McElwain received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.
NMMC hospitalist Dr. Renee Walters is the 2021 Acute Rehabilitation Physician of the Year. Therapists describe Dr. Walters as “always approachable” and say she “appreciates the value of therapy.” She often seeks out therapists for their expertise and follows through with recommendations. Therapists say she is easy to talk with and genuinely cares for her patients. Dr. Walters received her medical degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens.
NMMC hospitalist Dr. Raymond Seay is the 2022 Acute Rehabilitation Physician of the Year. While working on the COVID unit, the therapists say Dr. Seay was “always available for us, treated us like colleagues and valued the use of therapists with COVID patients.” They say Dr. Seay deeply cares for his patients and fellow staff members and demonstrates a genuine passion to see patients improve and coworkers excel at their jobs. Dr. Seay graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
