Congratulations to nurse practitioner Michelle Turba of North Mississippi Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, who recently retired after 25 years with our organization.

Michelle joined the North Mississippi Health Services team in April 1998 as a nurse practitioner at IMA-Tupelo, where she spent almost 20 years. In her most recent role, she made rounds at several area nursing homes, assisted living facilities, North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo and patients’ homes.

A 1985 graduate of Jackson Academy, Michelle attended Mississippi State University for three years before earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Central Florida in 1991. She completed her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Florida in 1996. She is certified as an adult and gerontological nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and American Nurses Credentialing Center, respectively. In 2015, she graduated from the NMMC Advanced Practice Leadership Institute.

Michelle says the best part of her job has been getting to know patients and making a positive difference in their lives. “I appreciate being able to learn and to serve north Mississippi in partnership with so many great physicians and team members,” she adds.

Throughout her career, Michelle was honored with various awards, including the Mississippi Nurses’ Association Clinical Nurse Specialist Award in 1998, NMMC Top Performer in Preventive Care and Congestive Heart Failure Management Awards in 2013 and Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal Readers’ Choice Award nominee for Best Caregiver in 2014, 2020 and 2022. She received NMMC Stars Online recognition in 2014 and 2017 and was recently nominated for NMMC’s Advanced Practice Nurse Excellence award.

Michelle and Mark, her husband of 30 years, plan to move soon from Saltillo to Port St. Joe, Florida. The Turbas have four children—Samantha, Zachary, Chris and Ryan.

In retirement, she’s looking forward to “boating and beaching!” She also hopes to get involved with Marine Life Animal Rescue.
