WEST POINT, Mississippi – North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point recently named Emergency Department nurse Lane Hunt, BSN, as its Star of the Quarter.
Hunt joined the North Mississippi Health Services team in 2016. His career started at North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo, where he cared for patients in the Intensive Care Step-Down Unit, Emergency Department and Cardiac Catheterization Unit before taking on his current duties in the Emergency Department at NMMC-West Point.
His colleagues nominated him for his commitment to his patients and willingness to go the extra mile. One colleague wrote about a patient who arrived in cardiac arrest. Hunt, who was preparing to end his shift, recognized the patient from a previous stay at the hospital.
“Lane stayed well past the end of his shift to ensure that there was nothing more he could do to assist the team, but more importantly, to assist his patient,” his colleague wrote. “I found his devotion to the patient inspirational and his actions made me want to try a little harder, too. While we talk about patients and relationships all the time, Lane is actually doing it.”
The opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of his patients is the best part of his work as an Emergency Department nurse.
“I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing patients leave the Emergency Department in better shape than when they arrived,” Hunt said. “My co-workers, from my day shift partners to my night shift cohorts, are some of the hardest working and most amazing people to work with. They inspire me to continuously improve and to always provide the best care possible to our patients.”
Hunt is a graduate of New Hope High School in Columbus. He earned his associate degree in nursing from East Mississippi Community College in Mayhew and his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Delta State University. He holds certification in basic, pediatric and advanced cardiovascular life support and has completed emergency nursing core and pediatric courses.
His wife, Lexie, also serves as a nurse at NMMC-West Point. They have two daughters, Laney and Lillie.
