TUPELO, Mississippi—North Mississippi Medical Center recently honored physical therapist Paul Bouchillon of Home Health as Star of the Month.

Bouchillon was recognized for his extraordinary care of a home health patient who suffered a serious fall that required a second evaluation because of persistent pain. “This patient was in such pain that she was concerned about getting in and out of the car and to the appointment,” his nomination states. “Paul assured her that they would make sure she got to the appointment and back.”

On the day of the appointment, Bouchillon met the patient’s son at her home and helped get her from the home into the car, followed them to the doctor’s office and then assisted her out of the car and into the clinic. He even returned to the clinic after her appointment to help get her back into the car and then settled at home. “This is going above and beyond to make sure patients are taken care of to the best of his ability,” the nomination states. “Had Paul not assisted, she would have required some type of transportation other than a personal vehicle.”

Bouchillon originally worked for NMMC from 1990-2006 as a staff therapist and director of Acute Rehabilitation Services. He rejoined the NMMC team in 2016 as a Home Health physical therapist.

“So many of my peers perform on an extremely high level every day going the extra mile for our patients,” Bouchillon says. “It’s a bar set high, and I accept this acknowledgment on their behalf.”

A native of Durant, Bouchillon received his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Mississippi in Oxford in 1983. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson in 1990. He and Susan, his wife of 31 years, have four children—Mary Jennings (Matt) Wheeler, and Austin, Lizzie and Davis Bouchillon. They attend The Orchard church in Tupelo.
