TUPELO, Mississippi—North Mississippi Medical Center presented its most recent DAISY Award to registered nurse Jarrett Walden, charge nurse on 3 Central.

“Jarrett always has the most positive attitude that spreads to his peers,” a coworker wrote in his nomination. Walden recently stayed with a patient who had no family present as she was dying. “He took this patient on as a family member and made sure not to leave her side so she wouldn’t be scared or alone,” she wrote. “He brought joy into a sad situation, and the patient held his hand for comfort. Jarrett has a true servant’s heart.. thank you for loving a stranger as your own.”

A graduate of Falkner High School, Walden earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in 2020. He resides in Corinth.

Walden received a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a bouquet donated by Bishop’s Flower Shop and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch. The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day.
