TUPELO, Mississippi—John Murray Estess, M.D., has been elected as medical staff chairman for North Mississippi Medical Center for 2023.

Dr. Estess has been a cardiologist with Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi in Tupelo for 20 years. He has served as chair for the NMMC Cardiovascular Section, was chief of the Cardiovascular Non-Invasive Lab and secretary of the medical executive committee. Dr. Estess has served as a committee member on the peer review committee, intensive care unit, physician's computer user committee and Physician Leadership Institute.

Dr. Estess holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy in 1987. Following pharmacy school, Dr. Estess worked for Eli Lilly in pharmaceutical sales. It was during this time that he decided to pursue a medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson. Upon graduation, he moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, where he completed his residency and chief residency at the University of Virginia.  Dr. Estess completed a Cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and moved to Tupelo in 2002.  He is a board-certified Cardiologist and Member of the American College of Cardiology.  

Dr. Estess and his wife, Olga, have four children, John Murray, Jarrett, Jordan and Joshua. Outside work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and playing golf.
