AMORY, Mississippi—North Mississippi Medical Center Gilmore-Amory has presented its Nightingale Award to registered nurse Barbara Jones.

Nightingale Award recipients have proven their ability to go “beyond the call,” made a significant impact on the nursing profession, and created a lifelong legacy.

Jones cares for patients in the Intensive Care Unit at NMMC Gilmore-Amory. She joined the staff in 1976 and has served as a nurse in the Emergency Department, Medical-Surgery Unit and Central Medical-Surgery Unit before assuming her current role.

A graduate of Smithville High School, she holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis. Jones said she has wanted to be a nurse for as long as she can remember.

“I wanted to be a good nurse like my aunt, Hazel. She was an awesome nurse, very well respected and loved.” Jones said Gilmore-Amory is like a family to her and she is thankful for the many years she has worked to “serve and help the patients” in her community.

She and her husband, Craig, have two children and a grandchild. She is a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church in Amory.
