STARKVILLE – The Family Clinic in Starkville is joining the North Mississippi Health Services family.

Steven Brandon, M.D., Emily Brandon Landrum, M.D., and the clinic team will officially become part of North Mississippi Medical Clinics on Oct. 3, 2022. The clinic will become Family Clinic of Starkville and will remain in its current location at 501 Hospital Road in Starkville and retain the same phone number, (662) 323-3162.

“Drs. Brandon and Landrum have a deep commitment to Starkville and Oktibbeha County,” said David Barber, president of North Mississippi Medical Clinics and Chief Network Development Officer for North Mississippi Health Services. “We are privileged to have these leaders of primary care and their outstanding team to help us continuously improve the health of the people of our region.”

For the father-daughter physician team, joining North Mississippi Medical Clinics will allow them to provide a more streamlined and forward-thinking experience for their patients and their team.

“We believe this transition will allow us to focus even more on direct patient care, which is our highest priority,” Dr. Landrum said. “We hope to have additional physicians join the practice in the years to come.”

Caring for families in Starkville has been the Brandon family business nearly seven decades. The late Dr. Leonard Brandon started practicing in Starkville in 1954, caring for patients in the clinic and at the old Felix Long Memorial Hospital, as well as making house calls. Dr. Brandon has fond memories of accompanying his father on his rounds.

"I want to thank all of our patients in Starkville, Oktibbeha County and the surrounding area for the many years of support and confidence in our practice for the last 68 years,” Dr. Brandon said. “My mother will tell anyone that it was not an easy task building a practice from scratch. I have her, my dad, and my family to thank for supporting me in this endeavor that began, in my mind, when I was only five years old.”

Dr. Brandon and Dr. Landrum will continue to maintain a full-service primary care practice, providing care and service for patients in the clinic, hospital and nursing home settings.

Board-certified in family medicine, Dr. Brandon and Dr. Landrum earned their undergraduate degrees from Millsaps College in Jackson. They received their medical degrees from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine.

Dr. Brandon joined his father at The Family Clinic in 1992 after completing a residency at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Virginia.  He is a member of the Mississippi State Medical Association and the American and Mississippi academies of family physicians. He served as president of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians and as a trustee of the Mississippi State Medical Association. He has been active in quality improvement efforts, serving as a board member and chairman for the Information and Quality Healthcare (IQH) of Mississippi. He has also served as chief of staff for OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.

He is married to his wife, Kathy, and has three adult children, Emily Landrum, Caroline Brandon and Jonathan Brandon, and one grandchild.

He is an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, where he has served as a vestry member and Senior Warden.

Dr. Landrum, who filed patient charts at the clinic as a teen, joined the practice as a physician in 2018. She earned the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship, served as a board member for the Jackson Free Clinic and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society during medical school. She completed her residency at the North Mississippi Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Center, where she served as chief resident during her final year and earned the J. Edward Hill Art of Medicine Award.

She is an active member of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians and the Mississippi State Medical Association, where she is currently serving as chair of the Council on Medical Service. She is a member of the community advisory committee for the RURAL study, which tracks health outcomes in 10 Southern rural counties.

She is married to her husband, AJ, and they have a son, Leo. She attends the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. She serves on the board of Junior Auxiliary of Starkville.

The Family Clinic will be closed the week of Sept. 26-30 for training and transition. The staff will help patients with the shift to the myConnection patient portal used by North Mississippi Medical Clinics.

“Dr. Landrum and I are looking forward to our new relationship with North Mississippi Health Services,” Dr. Brandon said.
