TUPELO, Mississippi—North Mississippi Medical Clinics recently named Diabetes Treatment Center Educator Shelley Gaggini, BSN, RD, as the Star of the Month.
Gaggini, who is a registered nurse, certified diabetes educator and registered dietitian, has been a health care professional since 1983. Most of her career has been focused on diabetes care. She joined the Diabetes Treatment Center in Tupelo in 2017.
“My work provides purpose and has always essentially been tied in with who I am as a person,” Gaggini said. “The Diabetes Treatment Center is a great place to work because I’m surrounded by supportive, committed and kind team members. It’s a place where you feel valued and significant.”
Gaggini, who previously served as Diabetes Treatment Center manager, has been a dedicated team member for years, according to her colleagues.
“If there was a need in the clinic, she was there and never hesitated to jump in and help whether it was drawing labs, checking in patients, getting vital signs or completing education,” one teammate wrote in nominating Gaggini. “Her legacy as a leader is still present here in the clinic even though she has stepped into a different job.”
Another teammate lauded her as a compassionate professional who cares for her patients and her coworkers.
“We are confident that our patients are being taken care of and given what they need to take care of their diabetes,” the teammate wrote. “She fills in on the weekends, which allows educators to spend time with their families. We want Shelley to know how much she is appreciated and know that her hard work, dedication, loyalty and love are noticed.”
Gaggini earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
She was married to the late Jerry Gaggini and has four children and six grandchildren. She is a member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo.
