NMMC Gilmore-Amory Names Nelson as Star of the Quarter
Gwendolyn Nelson has been selected by her peers as North Mississippi Medical Center Gilmore-Amory’s Star of the Quarter.AMORY, Mississippi—Gwendolyn Nelson has been selected by her peers as North Mississippi Medical Center Gilmore-Amory’s Star of the Quarter.
Nelson is a patient access specialist in the hospital’s Business Office. Since joining the NMMC Gilmore-Amory staff in April 1998, she has worked in the Emergency Department, switchboard and outpatient services.
“What I love most about my job is my coworkers,” she said. “They keep me smiling and my spirits high when I may be feeling low.”

Nelson was nominated for going above and beyond while working the hospital’s switchboard recently. The caller had a critical finding from a patient’s outpatient test that needed to be reported quickly to the patient’s physician but the clinic was closed. “Gwen looked for an alternate contact number but was not able to find one. She could have stopped there, but she asked if I could hold while she looked for other options,” the nomination states. “Because of Gwen’s efforts, it was discovered that the patient was currently in the Amory ER. I was transferred to the ER, where I was able to give the doctor the critical finding alert. Thanks to Gwen for seeing the urgency and taking the extra time to make sure patient care was made a priority.”
Nelson graduated from Benjamin E. Mays High School in Atlanta and attended Reinhardt College in Waleska, Georgia. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Rust College in Holly Springs.
