WEST POINT, Mississippi – Family physician Cliff Story, M.D., is rejoining North Mississippi Health Services and will continue to care for patients in the Golden Triangle.

“We are so happy to welcome Dr. Story back to North Mississippi Health Services,” said Barry Keel, North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point administrator. “He has been part of our Connected Care Partners provider network and brings a wealth of knowledge and resources with him.”

Story, who took care of patients at West Point Medical Clinic from 2005 to 2008, has spent more than a decade caring for the Mississippi State University family through University Health Services.

“I’m looking forward to this new opportunity to partner with North Mississippi Health Services to care for people in Starkville,” Dr. Story said.

While Dr. Story’s permanent office will be in Starkville, he will be temporarily based at West Point Internal Medicine to help bridge the gaps left by the retirement of Andrzej Wartak, M.D., and the death of Ed Miller, M.D. He will begin seeing patients in West Point on Jan. 17.

“This arrangement gives us time to set up a clinic for Dr. Story in Starkville while filling a great need in our West Point medical community,” said David Barber, president of North Mississippi Medical Clinics and NMHS chief network development officer.

Dr. Story will join and serve as the collaborating physician for nurse practitioners Rebecca Stanford, CFNP, and Sara Cox, AGNP, at West Point Internal Medicine, Keel said. NMHS is well into the process of identifying physicians to succeed Drs. Wartak and Miller.

“I have great respect for (the late) Dr. Miller and Dr. Wartak, and it is an honor to help take care of their patients,” Dr. Story said.

Dr. Miller’s son, West Point family physician Ned Miller, D.O., has been filling in as collaborating physician for Stanford and Cox so they could continue to see West Point Internal Medicine patients. Tupelo pulmonologist Jaime Ungo, M.D., will step into Dr. Wartak’s role as medical director of the NMMC-West Point Sleep Disorders Center.

“We are so grateful for the support and resources we have available to us through North Mississippi Health Services to help keep area residents connected to the care they need, especially in times such as these,” Keel said.

Dr. Story joined the Mississippi State University health team in 2008, serving as a Longest Student Health Center staff physician, head team physician for MSU athletics and an adjunct faculty member. From 2013 to 2021, he served as executive director for University Health Services.

Dr. Story is a graduate of Mississippi State University and University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and is board certified by the American Board of Family Physicians.

Dr. Story, a native of Slidell, Louisiana, has three children, AlliGrace, Amelia and Travis.

Early in his career, Story served as a missionary in Colombia and Costa Rica. He enjoys singing, writing original music, sports, hunting and golfing.
