Interventional cardiologist Benjamin Blossom, M.D., of Cardiology Associates of North Mississippi recently enrolled the first patient in the U.S. in the EXPANSE PTCA (percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty) study at North Mississippi Medical Center. Interventional cardiologists like Dr. Blossom deal specifically with the catheter-based treatment of heart diseases.
The EXPANSE PTCA device is an investigational device being studied in patients with narrowed coronary arteries. The study is being done to find out if the investigational device will improve the internal structure of a narrowed artery by expanding the diameter of the blood vessel.
The clinical trial is being overseen by NMMC’s Institutional Review Board. For more information, call (662) 620-6800.
