North Mississippi Health Services was awarded the 2021 Access to Care Advocate of the Year award by the American Cancer Society Action Network (ACS CAN).
Kimberly Hughes (center), ACS CAN government relations director for Mississippi and Louisiana, presents the award to Ormella Cummings, NMHS chief strategy, health equity and inclusion officer, and Shane Spees, NMHS president and chief executive officer.
NMHS was honored for its work on the ACS CAN Medicaid Covers Us project, a series of videos that highlighted the importance of expanding Medicaid in Mississippi. The videos were from the perspective of health care leaders, a physician, a social worker and a patient. They can be viewed at https://www.fightcancer.org/medicaid-covers-us-mississippi.
