HAMILTON, Ala.—Dadra Lucas, registered nurse in the Emergency Department at North Mississippi Medical Center-Hamilton, has been selected by her peers as the most recent Employee of the Year.

Lucas joined the hospital staff in 1993 after working as a licensed practical nurse at a doctor’s office. She worked on the Medical-Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit and as relief supervisor before transferring to the Emergency Department. She is a graduate of Marion County High School and received her LPN training at Northwest Technical School. She earned an associate degree in nursing from Northwest Shoals Community College in Phil Campbell. She is certified in Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and CPR.  

She is married to Rodney Lucas and has two children, Daniel Lucas (wife Gracie) and Kadra Bowland (husband Austin).

“Dadra is a great ER nurse,” said a coworker who nominated Lucas. “She is a co-worker you can rely on to be here and serve our patients!”

Another coworker said that Lucas is compassionate and cares for the patients as if they were family.

Lucas says the best part of her job is taking care of patients. “The thing that I love most is working with the staff at Hamilton - we are family. There are so many people that I work with, that I can always depend on,” Lucas said.

She is a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church in Guin.           

The Employee of the Year honor recognizes employees with exemplary job performance and customer service skills, as well as community involvement.
