NMMC-West Point Recognizes Dodson as Outstanding Employee
North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point has named Mike Dodson, a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, as Employee of the Quarter.WEST POINT, Miss.—North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point has named Mike Dodson, a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, as the most recent Employee of the Quarter.
Dodson joined the NMMC-West Point staff in February 2019. He has been employed by North Mississippi Health Services since 2008, having previously served as a nurse with the Nursing Resource Pool (2008-2011) at NMMC-Tupelo, Hospitalist program (2012-2013) at NMMC-Tupelo, and Home Health (2013-2019).
He is a 1986 graduate of Heritage Academy in Columbus and completed a bachelor’s degree in management from Mississippi State University in Starkville in 1991. “In 2005, after much prayer, I felt led to resign a management job with a very successful company to return to school to pursue a career in nursing,” Dodson said. “Being a nurse to me is much more than a job. It is a calling.”
He earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus in 2008. He is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Dodson says his favorite part of the job is having the opportunity on every shift to make a difference in someone’s life. “My goal is to truly be an advocate for every patient, every time, and to treat every patient as I would my own family members,” he said. “I am very thankful that God has allowed me to be a nurse, and I am very thankful to be a part of a great team at NMMC-West Point.”
His wife, Missy, is a family nurse practitioner at MSU’s Longest Student Health Center. Daughter Taylor Dodson is a senior pursuing her bachelor’s degree in nursing at MUW, and son J.C. Dodson is a senior at Caledonia High School. The family attends Border Springs Baptist Church in Caledonia.
