TUPELO, Mississippi—North Mississippi Medical Center has named Angel Justice, MSN, FNP-BC, as director of the Advanced Practice Clinician Fellowship.

Justice received her associate degree in nursing from Itawamba Community College in 2004 and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in 2015. She completed her master’s degree in nursing and family nurse practitioner training in 2016 at MUW. She graduated from NMMC’s Advanced Practice Clinician Fellowship in 2017 and has been serving as program coordinator since January 2021.

Justice began her NMMC career in 2004 as a nurse in the Critical Care Unit. She has also worked in outpatient hemodialysis and NMMC Home Health, as well as at Pulmonary Consultants. Since becoming a nurse practitioner, she worked at Rheumatology Consultants and NMMC’s COVID-19 infusion clinics.

She and her husband, Nathan, have two children—Morgan Colburn (Jason) and Kyle Justice—and two grandchildren, Amelia and Rosalie.

NMMC’s 12-month fellowship program bridges a newly licensed and certified nurse practitioner from the academic setting to the private health care delivery system. Each fellow completes a series of clinical rotations and didactic sessions to further prepare for direct patient care. Clinical rotations may include cardiovascular, diabetes, rheumatology, neurology, pain management, infectious disease, mental health and primary care. Didactic sessions include tobacco cessation, Department of Transportation physical exam, rural trauma, Medicare Access Reauthorization Act, Merit-based Incentive Payment System, advanced diagnostics and pharmacology.

Fellows also undergo leadership and communication training that includes Crucial Conversations, Five Choices and Seven Habits of Highly Effective Leaders. The NMMC Advanced Practice Clinician Fellowship is accredited by the National Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship Training Consortium as well as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
