TUPELO, Miss.—The North Mississippi Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program recently welcomed eight new residents, including Austin Gauldin, D.O., of Lincoln, Alabama.

Dr. Gauldin received his bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn, Alabama.

He is the son of Barry and Angie Gauldin of Lincoln, Alabama. He is married to Dolores Gauldin and has two daughters, Ella and Everleigh.

“The family medicine residency training program emphasizes quality medical education through traditional medical and surgical rotations. The program’s quality is also enhanced by a broad-based curriculum in family medicine in the NMMC Family Medicine Residency Center and in rural rotations throughout North Mississippi Medical Clinics,” said Dennis Smith, D.O., residency director. “Our primary goal is to increase the number of board-certified family physicians in Mississippi, and this program is leading us in that direction. We must rebuild our primary care base if we expect to properly care for the growing number of elderly and if we expect to improve quality of care while tempering cost increases.”
