TUPELO, Miss.—The North Mississippi Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program recently welcomed eight new residents, including Janice Mitchell, D.O., of D’Iberville.
Dr. Mitchell received her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from the University of South Alabama. She received her medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at William Carey University in Hattiesburg.
She is the daughter of Renee and Rocky Smith. She is married to Ross Mitchell.
“The family medicine residency training program emphasizes quality medical education through traditional medical and surgical rotations. The program’s quality is also enhanced by a broad-based curriculum in family medicine in the NMMC Family Medicine Residency Center and in rural rotations throughout North Mississippi Medical Clinics,” said Dennis Smith, D.O., residency director. “Our primary goal is to increase the number of board-certified family physicians in Mississippi, and this program is leading us in that direction. We must rebuild our primary care base if we expect to properly care for the growing number of elderly and if we expect to improve quality of care while tempering cost increases.”
