BALDWYN, Miss.—Baldwyn Nursing Facility recently named Sandra Wheeler as Employee of the Month for March.
Wheeler has a long and varied career with North Mississippi Medical Center. She joined the NMMC staff in 1986 as a registered nurse on 4 East and 6 South. She worked for NMMC Home Health for 13 years and then transferred to NMMC’s Skilled Nursing Facility, where she worked for 10 years. She joined the Baldwyn Nursing Facility staff three years ago.
A 1979 graduate of Pine Grove High School, Wheeler received her associate degree in nursing from Northeast Mississippi Community College in 1985. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in 2002 and her master’s degree in nursing from MUW in 2004.
Wheeler was nominated for the honor by a resident, who says, “She is always there.” Coworkers cited her as a caring and skilled nurse who loves her residents.
“The best part of working at Baldwyn Nursing Facility is the fact that I get to hear the residents’ life stories,” Wheeler says. “I love hearing about their childhood stories as well as what they did for a living when they became adults.”
She was married to the late Mickey Wheeler for 26 years and has five grown children—Bobby, Casey, William Ross, Amy and Jodi Wheeler. She attends Dumas Baptist Church.
