Marguerite Baker, a certified pediatric acute and primary care nurse practitioner specializing in endocrinology, has joined the Children’s of Mississippi team at its Tupelo specialty clinic.
Located at 1150 S. Green St., the clinic offers pediatric specialty care to patients in Tupelo and the surrounding region. The pediatric arm of the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Children’s of Mississippi includes the state’s only children’s hospital as well as clinics around the state.
Baker graduated from UMMC with a master’s degree in nursing following her undergraduate studies there. “My inspiration to become a nurse practitioner began with working as a nurse in the critical care setting and having a desire to build a long-term relationship with patients and their families,” she said. “My personal and professional experience with diabetes among children allows me to truly understand the day-to-day challenges children with diabetes face. Living with Type 1 diabetes from a young age, I empathize with children throughout their journey and am eager to help them have the best experience possible.”
As an endocrine nurse practitioner, Baker provides specialized care including evaluation and treatment, interpreting laboratory tests, prescribing medications and providing education to improve the health and well-being of children living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, pediatric obesity and other pediatric endocrine disorders.
Dr. Sara Silver, assistant professor of pediatric endocrinology and an endocrinologist at the Tupelo specialty clinic, said Baker is a valued member of the clinic’s care team. “Her personal and professional experience is an asset to our clinic,” she said. “I view her approach to the practice of medicine as caring and conscientious toward patients and families alike.”
