TUPELO, Miss.—The North Mississippi Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program recently welcomed eight new residents, including Emma McDowell, D.O., of Russellville, Alabama.
Dr. McDowell received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Alabama. She received her medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Auburn, Alabama.
She is the daughter of Daniel and Paula McDowell of Russellville, Alabama.
“The family medicine residency training program emphasizes quality medical education through traditional medical and surgical rotations. The program’s quality is also enhanced by a broad-based curriculum in family medicine in the NMMC Family Medicine Residency Center and in rural rotations throughout North Mississippi Medical Clinics,” said Dennis Smith, D.O., residency director. “Our primary goal is to increase the number of board-certified family physicians in Mississippi, and this program is leading us in that direction. We must rebuild our primary care base if we expect to properly care for the growing number of elderly and if we expect to improve quality of care while tempering cost increases.”
