We recently launched one of the largest (and coolest!) projects I’ve been part of here at North Mississippi Health Services – the implementation of Epic throughout our health care system.
NMHS has been and continues to seek ways to redesign health care, and one of the challenges we experience daily is the complexity of health care – it can be complicated and confusing. We are focused on redesigning the way we coordinate care across our hospitals, clinics and outpatient facilities to better support both our teammates and our patients, and implementing Epic is a huge part of that. Epic is an electronic medical record system that brings state-of-the-art technology and patient care together to create a streamlined experience for both our teammates and our patients.
Until now, our hospitals, clinics and other facilities have used different systems to chart, order tests, etc. for our patients. With Epic, we’re leaning into a “one patient, one record” approach to care. Epic is designed to help organize and chronicle the story of a patient’s health care over time, making it easier for our team to communicate, diagnose and treat patients, all the while providing the patient with a seamless experience when it comes to their health care. Having our entire health care system using Epic provides a consistent experience to our patients no matter where they’re receiving care, whether it’s in an emergency department, at a clinic or even using home health services. It means your charts, provider notes, lab work, prescriptions, appointment scheduling and even billing will all be coordinated and communicated in a central place, making your experience as a patient easy and hassle-free. Implementing Epic also allows our teammates the chance to evolve how they “do” the work of health care, giving them more freedom and flexibility to streamline their workflows and spend more time doing what they love – providing direct care to patients.
I’m thrilled and honored to be part of a team who continuously seeks new and innovative ways to meet our shared mission: to continuously improve the health of the people of our region. Epic is a very comprehensive patient care tool, and I look forward to our teams continuing to serve our communities with even better resources and technology. This is one of the projects we’ve implemented that truly touches every part of our A. G.R.E.A.T. Redesign strategy. Tune in to the podcast or watch our video to learn more!
