WEST POINT, Mississippi—North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point recently named Environmental Services technician Verona “Ann” McDowell as its Star of the Quarter.
McDowell joined the NMMC-West Point team in 2019.
“The best part about my job is helping people and making a difference,” McDowell said. “I am always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty.”
McDowell was nominated as Star of the Quarter after she assisted an Emergency Department colleague.
The colleague’s uniform pants and underlayer were soiled while she was caring for a patient. McDowell took the clothes back to her department, washed and dried them for her colleague.
“It seemed like she was only gone for a few minutes when she returned them to me; otherwise it would have been a very cool night in the ER,” the colleague wrote. “We really appreciate everything you do, Ms. Ann!”
McDowell is a graduate of Starkville High School. She has four daughters and 11 grandchildren. She is a member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Starkville.
