NMMC Honors Long with DAISY Award
TUPELO, Mississippi— North Mississippi Medical Center recently recognized Anna Long, RN, with the most recent DAISY Award.
Long was recognized for going above and beyond for a local graduate who missed her senior academic awards program at school because she was in the hospital. “I watched it on a laptop and my nurse, Mrs. Angela, watched and clapped when they called my name. She knew I was upset because I couldn’t attend.” The student won several awards—Hall of Fame, several scholarships, National Honor Society and many others.
Shortly thereafter, Long returned to the patient’s room with a handmade congratulatory card and a graduation gift of $100 she and the other staff had collected. “I bawled my eyes out,” the student says. “This nursing staff has been the absolute sweetest.”
Long received a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a bouquet donated by Bishop’s Flower Shop and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch. The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day.
