Garrett Retires from Surgery Center

Cathy with cakeCathy Garrett, RN, retired from North Mississippi Surgery Center on Nov. 2 with more than 25 years of service.

“I was an LPN and worked for a surgeon. I went to the operating room with him and that's when I knew I wanted to further my education and work in the operating room,” says Cathy, who did just that and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi College in 1992.

Cathy began her nursing career in the operating room at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood. She joined the North Mississippi Medical Center team in 1998 as an operating room nurse at the Tupelo hospital. She also worked in surgery at Women’s Hospital before spending her last 20 years at North Mississippi Surgery Center.

“I love all aspects of surgery, and I would love to see more nurses make the OR their career,” says Cathy, who lives in New Albany. “The Surgery Center has the best group of people to call your work family. I will miss all of my coworkers, the surgeons and, of course, my patients.”

In retirement Cathy looks forward to spending more time with her family, which includes husband Jimmy and two daughters, three bonus sons and six grandchildren. She also loves to read and do yard work.
