North Mississippi Medical Clinics will open Starkville Pulmonary Clinic, welcome Dr. Tom Wood

STARKVILLE, Mississippi –North Mississippi Medical Clinics will expand access to lung care in the Golden Triangle this month.

Starkville Pulmonary Clinic with pulmonologist Tom Wood, M.D., will open Oct. 17.

“We are pleased to bring such an experienced pulmonologist like Dr. Wood to the Starkville area,” said David Barber, president of North Mississippi Medical Clinics and chief network development officer for North Mississippi Health Services. “Connecting the Golden Triangle with specialized care furthers our mission to improve the health of the region.”

Dr. Wood, a Tupelo native, brings more than a decade of pulmonary care expertise to the new clinic. Since 2007, he has cared for patients at Jackson General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee, and the Summit Hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee, and served on the faculty of Meharry Medical College in Nashville.

Starkville Pulmonary Clinic will open in a temporary location, 1205 Hwy. 182 West, Suite A. The clinic is expected to move to its permanent location at 1207 Hwy. 182 West, Suite E, in December. 

Dr. Wood earned his undergraduate degrees at Itawamba Community College in Fulton and Mississippi College in Clinton. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. 

He is the son of Mary Ann Wood and Gary Lynn Wood, both of Tupelo. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Verona.
