NMMC First in State to Use New Device
Another first! Last week at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, interventional cardiologist Dr. Barry Bertolet performed the first case in Mississippi using the 2.00 Max Crown, a new technology in peripheral atherectomy that removes plaque from peripheral arteries above the knee.
Doctors perform atherectomy when narrowed or blocked arteries reduce blood flow to the leg, often resulting in pain in your thigh, calf, or buttocks when you walk. After atherectomy, blood flow is increased, which lessens leg pain and promotes wound healing.
“This new device helps us clean out blood vessels in the leg much like what Roto-Rooter® does for your plumbing,” Dr. Bertolet says. “It allows us to remove more plaque than we were able to remove in the past. When it comes to blood vessels, bigger is always better!”
