Dr. Akinyemi Joins NMMC Rehabilitation Institute
TUPELO, Mississippi—North Mississippi Medical Center recently welcomed Foluke Akinyemi, M.D., to its Rehabilitation Institute.
A physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, Dr. Akinyemi comes to Tupelo from Mansfield, Texas, where she has practiced at North Texas Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 2017. She is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and has extensive experience at VA medical facilities.
She earned her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 2008. Dr. Akinyemi completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Loma Linda University Medical Center in California in 2012. She completed fellowship training in brain injury and polytrauma rehabilitation in 2013 with Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Akinyemi is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as brain injury medicine.
She has a hospital-based practice working with patients at the NMMC Rehabilitation Institute, a 30-bed inpatient unit staffed by rehabilitation professionals who provide three to five hours of intensive therapy daily to help patients reach their individual goals. The unit is staffed by physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, rehabilitation nurses, social workers and case managers.
