TUPELO, Miss.—Registered nurse Peggy Thompson of North Mississippi Medical Center’s Critical Care Unit recently received NMMC’s DAISY Award.
Thompson was nominated by a family member whose mother and brother were both hospitalized at the same time. “My brother raved about the kindness and support Peggy provided him while he was recovering from a procedure in the CCU,” the nomination states. “A few days later, I had the privilege of experiencing the same support and kindness, as Peggy was assigned to my mother. She was very knowledgeable about my mother’s condition and case. She greeted us nightly with a big smile and explained what to expect throughout the night.” Most importantly, the family member said, Thompson always asked before leaving the patient’s room if there was anything she could get for them.
“She showed that her words were her bond because she stuck by my Mom’s side through her roughest night after her tracheostomy,” the nomination states. “Her kindness and steadfastness, along with her commitment and dedication, gave me peace of mind.”
Thompson, who lives in Saltillo with husband Robert and daughter Rylan, completed her licensed practical nurse training at Itawamba Community College in 2013. She began her NMMC career as an LPN in the Emergency Department in October 2016. She earned her associate degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in May 2019 and transferred to NMMC’s Critical Care Unit.
Thompson received a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, a bouquet donated by Bishop’s Flower Shop and a hand-carved stone sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch.
