Hoing Retires with 31 Years of Service

Coworkers hosted a reception Oct. 8 honoring Brenda Hoing, who retired with 31 years of service at NMMC.

Brenda Hoing has retired from NMMC’s Print Shop after 31 years of service.

Hoing graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1975 and studied accounting for two years at Itawamba Community College in Fulton. She went to work for Hydro-Hose Corp. in 1978, which is where she learned how to run a printing press. While there she also met her husband, Terry, who worked for Weatherall Printing, where they had printer’s plates made. They were married in 1979.

Hoing left Hydro-Hose in 1983 and stayed home for six years with their young children. In 1989 she joined the staff at NMMC’s Print Shop, which was then located in the basement of the main hospital, near present-day Facility Operations. Six months later, the Print Shop’s production staff moved to their current location on President Street.

Hoing has been responsible for offset printing and binding, and she says the biggest change in her career came with new digital equipment several years ago.

She and Terry have two children—Kevin Hoing and Christina Carpenter, who also live in Pontotoc. She has served as a Girl Scout leader since Christina was in second grade—and she continues leading troops for granddaughter Katherine, who is a Senior Girl Scout, and Madalyn, who is a Junior Girl Scout. Hoing says she plans to stick with it if granddaughter Brooklyn, now 4, wants to be a Girl Scout also.

The Hoings are members of Zion Baptist Church, where she leads children’s activities on Wednesday evenings. She also enjoys crochet, needlepoint, sewing and traveling.
