Fowler Retires After 40+ Years of Service

Registered nurse Cindy Fowler of Women’s Hospital recently retired after more than 40 years of service at North Mississippi Medical Center.
Fowler graduated from Tupelo High School in 1976 and earned an associate degree in nursing from the former Itawamba Junior College in 1978. She worked in the nursery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center for a year before marrying Ray Fowler and returning to Tupelo. She joined the NMMC staff in September 1979 as a nurse in the intensive care nursery, which was located inside the main hospital. Two years later, she became a well baby nurse and in 1986 when Women’s Hospital opened, she transferred to the Well Baby Nursery there. In recent years she served as a transition nurse, helping parents with their newborn on the Mother-Baby Unit, and assisting with Newborn Follow-Up.
Fowler helped Women’s Hospital achieve Baby-Friendly designation and was a valuable mentor, preceptor and resource nurse. “I worked with some great people,” she says. “It was always like a family setting.”
Since retiring Aug. 14, Fowler has enjoyed spending more time with Ray; their daughter, Kristy Schipke; and granddaughters, Ava and Audrey. She also likes to cook, read and travel.
