Local Resident Named NMMC Home Health Caregiver of the Year

IUKA, Miss.—Kenneth Mobley of Iuka has been named Caregiver of the Year by North Mississippi Medical Center Home Health.

Nominations are based on the quality of care provided by the caregiver, active participation in the patient’s care, personal sacrifices made by the caregiver, the manner in which the care was rendered and the skills the caregiver acquired.

Mobley cared for his wife, Angela, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in her 40s. Angela was a patient of NMMC Home Health at various times over the years, and ultimately needed 24-hour care for several years.

“Kenneth was there, not only fixing and feeding her every meal, giving her every drink she took, turning her in bed and providing the best care for her,” said Leah Stephens, RN, Home Health nurse. “He allowed her to make decisions about her care and always respected her wishes. He put her needs above his own every day, even when he was sick himself. He always demonstrated compassion and made her the priority.”

“Being a caregiver is a very demanding and sometimes stressful responsibility,” said Kim Tutor, director of NMMC Home Health and Hospice. “The Caregiver of the Year Award recognizes caregivers like Kenneth Mobley who have shown a strong commitment in caring for a home health patient during the last year. He was clearly an inspiration to Leah and all the staff involved in Mrs. Mobley’s care. His hard work and dedication were appreciated and did not go unnoticed.”
