Weight Loss Surgery
Our bariatric surgeons primarily perform robotic-assisted and laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy. This surgery offers improved health and weight loss, and also helps you reach your weight loss goal as long as the proper diet and exercise regimen is followed.
We require the patient to be over the age of 21, generally in good health, and meet the National Institute of Health (NIH) recommendations for bariatric surgery.
Vertical sleeve gastrectomy promotes weight loss by restricting the amount of food that may be consumed without bypassing the stomach or part of the small intestine. The surgeon removes part of the stomach and forms a new stomach pouch. This procedure helps to reduce hunger by possibly eliminating some of the GI hormones responsible for the hunger pains. The stomach is reduced in volume but functions normally, so most food items can be eaten but only in smaller portions.
Vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a good option for people at higher risk for other bariatric procedures because of anemia, Crohn’s disease or other conditions.
