Family Medicine Residency Requirements
The North Mississippi Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program accepts first year residents who intend to complete three years of family medicine residency training. Those residents who enter the first year of the program are guaranteed a position for the full three years barring the development of grounds for dismissal or non-renewal of contract. The program offers eight positions in each three years.
How to Apply
Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All applications are reviewed. Interviews are offered based on a review of the application. A limited number of qualified applicants, based on the capacity of the program to conduct interviews, are invited for an on-site interview. Upon review of their application, candidates will be selected for interview based on their ability to succeed in the program and their likelihood of contributing to the goals of the program. Criteria assessed during the review of applications and during the applicant interviews include the applicant's patient care skills, medical knowledge, interpersonal skills, professionalism and ethics, capacity to conduct practice-based learning, and ability to work with others in systems-based care.

The FMRP will make reasonable efforts to confirm that all the educational requirements for the M.D. and D.O. degrees of candidates have been completed prior to entry to the residency program.
Advanced-level and inter-program transfers are undertaken according to the requirements of the American Board of Family Practice.
In order to successfully enter the training program, the accepted resident must complete several tasks in a prompt and timely fashion. These tasks include:
- Completion of all requirements for degree (M.D. or D.O.)
- Successful passage of USMLE parts 1 & 2, or COMLEX parts 1 & 2.
- Completion of required licensing forms for Mississippi and Tennessee.
- Signature and return of contract for training.
- Completion of employee orientation, including provision of needed documents such as Social Security card, photo identification, sign up for bank direct deposit, and employee screening history and examination.
- Must pass Step III and obtain a permanent/unrestricted license in the state of Mississippi in order to promote to a PGY III Resident.
