Message from Our Director
On behalf of the faculty, residents, and staff, I welcome your interest in our residency program. You are among a select group of physicians who choose training in family medicine and who will then join a specialty that is vibrant and much in demand. The faculty and staff of our program find the work of training family practitioners personally and professionally fulfilling.
North Mississippi Medical Center has served the health care needs of our region for more than 65 years. NMMC is now the largest rural hospital in the United States and provides care to more than 650,000 individuals in north Mississippi, northwest Alabama and portions of Tennessee. An important element in this history of service was the establishment of the Family Medicine Residency Program in 1994. NMMC is committed to high quality primary care and the training of excellent family practitioners.
We welcome applicants who desire to provide the best of care to their patients and who desire to become excellent physicians. In turn, our program will encourage your learning, provide you with excellent role models, and share the opportunity to care for our patients. We will seek to promote your growth as a whole person, who successfully enjoys life and balances the challenge of profession, community and family. In your future, we want you to look back at our program as the start of a very gratifying career as a family practitioner.
As you consider residency programs, we are confident that you will find ours to be one of excellence, one that prepares graduates well for the practice of family medicine. Please come visit with us and see for yourself. And please accept our sincere best wishes as you consider your training options.
Dennis Smith, D.O.
