North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point
NMMC-West Point is a full-service, 49-bed medical facility. This private, not-for-profit hospital opened its doors in 1985 and continues to grow.
NMMC-West Point is affiliated with North Mississippi Health Services, a 2012 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient.
Unique Design
NMMC-West Point's remarkable design was inspired by the history and culture of this charming Southern community. The entire structure is built around a central atrium filled with greenery. Interestingly, this configuration was inspired by a similar architectural idea used to build the antebellum Waverly Plantation House located nearby.
Medical-surgical patient rooms are entered from a foyer area and open onto a private terrace. Rooms are "nested," which means four to six rooms are clustered around each nursing unit. This design reduces walking distance, allows nurses to view several patients from a central point, and provides closer access to medical equipment.
Surgery & Intensive Care
Surgeons utilize four operating suites for a wide array of cases, including general, orthopedic and obstetrics-gynecology. The Same Day Surgery Unit features six rooms for outpatient surgery patients to rest before and after their procedure, as well as two endoscopy suites.
The six-bed Intensive Care Unit offers invasive and non-invasive monitoring for medical and surgical patients. The hospital also has 10 licensed swing beds for patients who need extended care.
Women's Pavilion
The Women's Pavilion provides family-centered maternity services in a homelike environment. Mothers labor, deliver and recover in the same comfortable room. Babies stay in their mother’s rooms throughout the hospital stay, as opposed to spending most of their time in the nursery. The same nurse provides care for both mom and baby, and pediatricians take care of babies right in their mother’s room. Babies may go to the nursery for a short period of time for specialized procedures, if mom is not feeling well or if staff needs to watch mom or baby more closely.
The nursery provides immediate stabilization of infants requiring intensive care. Breastfeeding assistance is provided.
Emergency & Outpatient Services
NMMC-West Point offers 24-hour emergency services at the Level IV Trauma Center, as well as a paramedic-level ambulance service.
Outpatient services include cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs, as well as physical, occupational and speech-language rehabilitation services. Cardiac stress tests and holter monitoring are also offered.
Ancillary Services
Radiology services include general diagnostic, fluoroscopic, CT scans, nuclear medicine scans, ultrasound, bone density and mammography. Mobile MRI services are also available several days each week.
A wide array of chemistry, bacteriology, blood bank and drug testing is available 24 hours daily in the hospital's Laboratory. Pharmacy services are provided to hospital inpatients and outpatients.
The Respiratory Therapy Department is staffed by licensed respiratory therapists who perform all respiratory support services, including ventilator procedures, arterial blood gases, BIPAP/CPAP, pulmonary function testing, smoking cessation education and asthma consults. The department also offers spirometry and pulmonary testing for area industries.
In the Sleep Disorders Center, a board-certified sleep specialist and registered sleep technologists help individuals overcome sleep apnea, narcolepsy, chronic insomnia and other conditions. The Sleep Disorders Center is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Wellness Center & More
The 14,000-square-foot Wellness Center boasts around 750 members and offers numerous classes for exercisers of all ages and fitness levels. Family, corporate and senior discounts are available.
NMMC-West Point offers a comprehensive diabetes education program that includes one-on-one inpatient and outpatient counseling.
The local hospital offers many community programs at the hospital and beyond, including health fairs, educational sessions, trauma prevention at schools, and flu shots at churches and industries as requested.
